What is Pink Aware? - Pink Ribbons Project presents a 20 - 30 minute dance demonstration to the audience that uses dance and art as the vehicles to introduce the topic. - Brings the message of breast health, self-care and well-person awareness to teens AND adults, both male and female. - Performance is followed by a lecture lead by a volunteer medical professional with a public health or oncology background. - The audience is then lead in discussion about breast health. - Is a fun and creative way to learn the importance of breast health awareness! Pink Ribbons Project's Pink Power program provides funding for mammograms, diagnostic work-ups, biopsies and other follow-up treatment for the medically underserved women in the greater Houston area. Total amount allocated to support breast cancer awareness, treatment and education in the greater Houston area during 2011 is more than $460,000. In 2011 alone, Pink Ribbons Project has impacted the community through the following: Harris County Hospital District for the Pink Ribbons Project Saturday Mammography Program at Quentin Mease Community Hospital, People's Health Clinic and Aldine Clinic. From 2005 - 2009, you rode many miles, you raised more than $1.6 million, and you helped many people. Here's how...; Since its inception in 2005, Tour de Pink has helped Pink Ribbons Project make a powerful impact within the Greater Houston Area through the efforts of dedicated riders, volunteers, sponsors and all those who pledge. Here are some of the highlights from the past 4 years: You got the wheels spinning for Tour de Pink, and we have helped many of our partners get rolling by helping to provide mobile mammography units out in the community to connect with patients where they live, work and socialize. In 2008, we shared equally with Komen Houston in the purchase of a mobile van for The Rose Diagnostic Center to transport their Sophie Mammography Unit throughout the Greater Houston Area, providing annual mammograms to thousands of women. Riding and Non-riding Volunteers Packet pick-up- This is a fun opportunity to help Tour de Pink cyclists sign up for the ride and make sure they have everything they need for the big day. Packet pick-up takes place at Bike Barn on Kirby on Friday, September 17 from 10 am-7 pm (preferred shifts are 9:45- noon, 11:45- 2, 1:45- 5 and 4:45- 7) and Saturday, September 18 (preferred shifts are 9:45- noon, 11:45- 2, 1:45- 5 and 4:45- 6) from 10 am-6 pm. Set up- Arrive early at Prairie View A&M and help the Pink Ribbons Project staff and volunteers help set up for the big day.
