Pink Ribbons Project Seed Money Helps Mobile Mammography Unit Grow to a Reality
Harris County Hospital District benefits from donation Houston, TX — August 15, 2007 – Earlier this year, Pink Ribbons Project designated $100,000 as seed money, earmarked for the purchase of a mobile mammography unit by the Harris County Hospital District (HCHD). This donation encouraged contributions to HCHD by Susan G. Komen for the Cure Houston and the Baylor / Methodist Community Health Fund, completing the required funds for the purchase. The Harris County Hospital District will use the mobile mammography unit to better reach the underserved women in the greater Houston area, providing breast cancer screening they might not otherwise have access to. Loretta Hanser, mammography coordinator of the Harris County Hospital District, called the funding effort "a dream come true" and said that she had thought that "the funding would take a year at least and am amazed that it was accomplished in just over three months." Susan Rafte, executive director of Pink Ribbons Project, added her thanks for the "generosity of Houstonians who are always so willing to help make Houston a better place."
