Why we need your help
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer--an astonishing and frightening statistic. We are working to change this statistic through our focus on education, outreach, advocacy, survivorship, and through collaborations with local service providers.
While Houston claims the world's largest medical center, there are over 1 million people living without health insurance in the Greater Houston area. Many of these uninsured do not have routine mammograms, and often do not understand the value of such a simple examination. That's why access and education are such vitally important needs that must be addressed.

In 2008, Pink Ribbons Project programs and activities made a tremendous impact in the Greater Houston area:
-A partnership with The Rose Diagnostic Center and the Houston affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure supported the purchase of a second Mobile Van for an additional Sophie Mammography Unit, doubling the capacity to serve women in the Greater Houston community to over 12,000 per year.
-A partnership with the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston provided funding to staff the new mobile mammography unit, which has been garaged in the wake of Hurricane Ike. This funding will keep the van in operation during the second quarter of 2009.
-A co-production with Stages Repertory Theatre funded
UNBEATABLE: A Bold New Musical, an original work that chronicles the journey of a breast cancer survivor, which lpayed to thousands in the Houston area at Stages and the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts; Pink Ribbons Project also produced the original cast album, available
here.
-A collaboration for the third consecutive year with the Harris County Hospital District donated to the Pink Ribbons Project Saturday Mammography Program, increasing the screening capacity to include over 1,000 additional women per year.
-Sponsorship of the 2008 Breast Health Summit, an annual education and advocacy event, reached out to 237 health care providers from 88 organizations in 36 cities.
-Drink Pink, our newest program, reached an estimated 2,500 people, and taught middle- and elementary-age students how to raise awareness about breast cancer.
